Just found your podcast on iTunes and wanted to correct you on a couple of things. You are corrcet about Glock sending out their pistols with a 5.5lb trigger, but by you putting in a 6lb trigger it doesn't mean that the striker is hitting the primer with a 1/2lb more force. It's means you are having to pull the trigger a 1/2lb harder to fire the gun. If you want the striker to hit harder you need to change the striker spring. Another thing, changing the trigger from 5.5lbs to 3lbs shoudn't make it more risky in shooting yourself if you need to use your gun to protect yourself, since your finger doesn't go on the trigger till your sights are on your target. If you shoot yourself in the leg or foot, it's not the triggers fault it's your fault for having your finger on the trigger when it shouldn't have been.

Wow. I'm certainly not upset at your review, but I'm sad that you had such a frustrating experience all around. I own a PT111 (9mm) millenium pro and have had mostly great experiences with it.

I know it is a different gun, but I found your review informative. Definately something I will keep in mind.

Excellent Review, i prefer guns without safeties. I'd suggest taking a firearms safety or ccw1 course. Both will teach you how to shoot. I spent near 800 dollars on ammo and my shooting only marginally got better. A 100 dollar course taught me far more. Bullets that don't hit your target *will* hit something.

I have a SW MP .40c as well. It was the first gun i ever owned, and it is my daily concealed carry gun. I have a love hate relationship with this gun. It ran flawlessly until around 1k rounds when i started getting magazine drops. Even after 1 trip to SW and 2 trips to a local gunsmith it still didn't fix the problem. In the end i went down the hardware store for some super hard piano wire to replace the magazine spring. Fixed it myself. I have since put around 2.4k rounds downrange and its back running like a champ. I love this gun so much i had a trigger job done to it, and gave it night sights.

Bob, like you I'll be a first-time gun owner and have been thinking of getting the same model gun for the same reasons you did. I'm worried about the weight, though. You said the gun started to get heavy for you after a while, and you're taller and weigh more than I do. I'm 5'4" at 110 lbs. I exercise, though, and am a little stronger than I look.

And why in heck would S&W put ridges on the hammer like that?! You said your thumb started to get sore (an excellent detail in your podcast, by the way), and I'm like the Princess and the Pea when it comes to little, physical annoyances like that.

The thing is, I really want this gun, though, especially after reading your review. It looks like a beautiful little machine, solid, and the 10 rounds instead of just 6 are the icing on the cake.

What do you think? Should I buy the gun without having held and shot it first?

Thanks Larry - I appreciate the info about adjusting the sights and also that you enjoyed the podcast. I have probably about 1000 rounds through the gun now and it just gets better all the time. I've cleaned it several times and I'm getting better at that too, except when I spill a whole bottle of Hoppe's solvent on my desk. After listening to my own podcast again, I promise any reviews I do in the future will be more to the point and not so long and boring!
Cheers!

I really enjoyed your podcast. The "6" in 617 stands for stainless. Adjusting your sights is actually a pretty simple procedure. You simply move the rear sight in the direction that you want the bullet impact to move to. For example: If you want to point of impact to move to the left you move the rear sight to the left. The same for elevation. Some guns have adjustable front and rear sights. On an adjustable front sight you would move the front sight in the opposite direction that you want the point of impact to move towards. If you want the point of impact to move upwards you could move the front sight down. Enjoy that beautiful gun.

I really enjoyed the review of the Colt D-series revolvers. I have a later Colt Cobra which has had a trigger job and my girlfriend currently keeps it as her "car gun" (legal in my state). I am toying with the idea of swapping her guns so that I can carry the Colt, however I would require some kind of chrome or other plating or finish as I sweat a lot and blueing does not last long for me.

I look forward to more reviews!
